A warmer ground
Across these paintings the palette turns to burnt orange, ochre and gold. Some are still lifes laid on gold grounds; others let the ground itself become the light. Taken together they mark a clear shift in a career that has run more than six decades — the same atmospheric restraint, held in a much warmer key.
